BACK CREEK YC Back Creek Yacht Club has had an active month culminating in the Club’s Memorial Weekend Cruise to Fairlee Creek from May 25 to the 28th. Club members had a party at Great Oak Yacht Club on arrival on Friday and shared in an Opening Day Ceremony for Great Oaks Yacht Club on Saturday, followed by a tour of nearby Chestertown using the Rock Hall Trolley. Sunday involved tennis and golf options and was climaxed by a catered cookout.
On May 5, a Cinco de Mayo party was held at Presidents Point Condominium Community to “welcome” new members during the past year. The party was hosted by Carol and Victor Palmer and chaired by Candy Wilson and Michelle Sanger (and their incredible esposos). The meal consisted of enchiladas, burritos, and creations from members' own cocinas (kitchens). Many arrived in costumes appropriate to the occasion.
John Yates, who received a prize for his apparel is shown in the attached photo. The other photo is of Molly Stone taking a good whack at the piñata, appropriately with a boating hook. In late April, the 28th, the Club inaugurated the boating season with a barbecue and socializing at a land-water function held on Whitehall Creek, at the shore-side home of members Larry and Dale Tepper. Members came by land, for those whose boats were still on the hard, or by water, either anchoring out or using their dock. While Members contributed appetizers and desserts, two main dishes were featured: Larry Tepper provided sliced flank steak and JJ Sullivan made grilled salmon using his special recipe. On April 20, members attended a Happy Hour with a Twist at the Doubletree Hotel Annapolis for food and drinks to hear a presentation on anchoring techniques and equipment, including a special description on safe rafting skills, provided by John Godfrey, Vice Commander of the West Annapolis Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla. In late March, a “Casino Night” was enjoyed by many at the Annapolis Naval Station. Club activities are coordinated by the Club’s newly revised and renamed web-site, www.gobcyc.com, our virtual club house, that provides news, details of upcoming events, and, pictures chronicling the Club’s various boating and social events. If you are interested in a friendly, active boating club with numerous social events, contact Bill Kranzer, 410-263-9770, to explore membership. You can attend an upcoming event on our active agenda as our guest.
