BACK CREEK YACHT CLUB
The Club’s first on-the-water event for this season was a Pig Roast held at the house of members Gail and Bob Higginbottam on Minnow Creek (off Whitehall Creek), that took place on April 26th Some attending took advantage of the available dock space to tie up while others anchored in Whitehall Creek and came over to the party by dinghy and the next morning to the breakfast provided. On May 3rd, the Club will hold a “Run for the Roses” party, to share the excitement of the Kentucky Derby, drink mint juleps, enjoy a a BIG screen TV, great food, more mint juleps, and participate in a horseshoe throwing competition and a Ladies Hat Contest. This is also the Club’s annual New Members Day Party, so if you are not currently a member, now is a good time to join. On May 16th, the Club will hold its monthly Friday night Happy Hour. The Club’s first Cruise will take place over Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-26, to be held at Haven Harbor Marina on Swan Creek, at Rock Hall:
On April 11th, members attended a seamanship and safety presentation at the Maritime Institute of Technology in Linthicum, MD by a professional Bay Pilot. Those attending also had an opportunity to participate in a session on a ship bridge simulator that 85% of the world's Pilots train on. Club members got to experience the perspective of what a pilot encounters when navigating up the Bay.
