BACK CREEK YACHT CLUB

The Club held its Annual Commodore’s Ball on January 26th at The Power Station at Loews Annapolis Hotel to celebrate the past successful year, the new one to come, and to formally transfer the reins to its 2008 roster of officers.  Outgoing Commodore Rosie Gollehan transferred her flag to new Commodore Maddie Yates who introduced Vice Commodore John Oberright, Rear Commodore Terry Ritter, Fleet Captain Bill Falk, Secretary Jean Shirk, and Treasurer Mary Bowie along with Cheryl Goldberg, Vern Penner, and JJ Sullivan, new members of the Board of Governors, joining BOG members Rich Sanger, Bill Kranzer, and Larry Kelly.  A silent auction was held with interesting nautical items and weekend jaunts up for bids, and music for dancing during and after dinner was provided by Mike Lange and the Boogie Express.

On January 16, Club members met for dinner at the Club’s monthly Mid-week event at Red, Hot and Blue in Annapolis.  It was EVERYTHING BALUUUEEE NIGHT!  Members, many with blue suede shoes on, lifted their spirits with an evening of the Blues, including a special appearance of the BCYC Blues Brothers to help chase the post-holiday blues.

The 2008 events calendar, finalized by the Board of Governors on January 11th, will feature a number of destinations for this primarily cruising club, with the boating season opening in April, and at least monthly cruises on the Chesapeake Bay thereafter.  In June, the Annual week-long Club Cruise will be held with various stops on the Bay, and on long Memorial and Labor Day weekends, cruises to popular and secluded venues will celebrate those holidays.  This is an informal, fun club, inclusive of both sailboats and powerboats, all of whom enjoy cruising and being on the water as well as meeting other boaters and partying on land as well.  In February and March, educational programs will provide the focus of social events that help everyone prepare for the coming boating season.  For more information on this active Club, to learn more of its activities during 2008 for which new members and anyone considering membership can participate, check out the Club website at gobcyc.com and call Bill Kranzer, membership chair, at (410) 263-9770.
