The Club’s annual COMMODORE'S BALL AND SILENT AUCTION will take place at Loews Annapolis Hotel on January 26, 2008, with a breakfast the next morning. The Club’s leadership changeover is installed then: Commodore Maddie Yates, Vice Commodore John Oberright, Rear Commodore Terry Ritter, Fleet Captain Bill Falk, Secretary Jean Shirk, and Treasurer Mary Bowie. Cheryl Goldberg, Vern Penner, and JJ Sullivan become new members of the Board of Governors joining Rich Sanger, Bill Kranzer, and Larry Kelly.
On December 13th, over 20 members met for the Club’s monthly mid-week dinner at the Galway Bay restaurant in Annapolis and also took advantage of Annapolis’ Midnight Madness that evening for shopping and attending special exhibitions. On December 8th, members watched the 25th Anniversary of the Eastport Yacht Club’s Lights Parade from a top floor balcony room at the Marriott Hotel, while dining on pork tenderloin, salad, rolls, and desserts, and cheered on the Club’s entry, “Trolley Cat” that featured in keeping with this year’s “PEACE” theme, large doves of peace illuminated both on port and starboard of its entry manned by Dave Beyer, skipper and owner, who engineered the effort assisted by co-engineer Dale Schulz, local artist Gail Higginbotham, and PR anchor Pat Bernhart. The Club’s balcony decoration received third prize for that category and provided a suitable vantage point to take in the brightly lit boats that passed close by. The extensive fireworks display afterwards made a fitting conclusion to this pleasant December evening.
The Club’s new cookbook, “Cooking Up The Creek” also was made available for the Holidays. It features such recipes as Candi’s Shitake Gorgonzola Sauce for Filet Mignon, Molly’s Sticky Buns, Rosie’s Ahi Tuna, JJ’s BBQ Salmon; Pat’s Grand Marnier French Toast, and Maddie’s Kahlua Trifle, along with 160 other shared favorites of members. For more information on this active Club and its activities, during the upcoming off-season and into next Spring back on the water, check out its website at gobcyc.com and call Bill Kranzer, membership chair, at (410) 263-9770.
