On December 8th, Club Members packed a suite at the Annapolis Waterfront Marriott to party while intermittently braving the weather on the adjacent balcony to observe the 25th anniversary of the annual Eastport Yacht Club’s Lights Parade on Spa Creek, Members watched the elaborately lighted boats go by while dining on pork tenderloin, salad, rolls, and desserts, and celebrated Back Creek Yacht Club’s entry this year, “TROLLEY CAT,” a Boston Whaler displaying in keeping with this year’s Light Parade “PEACE” theme, large illuminated doves of peace both on port and starboard. Members Dave Beyer, skipper and owner, engineered the effort, assisted by co-engineer Dale Schulz, local artist Gail Higginbotham, and PR anchor Pat Bernhart. On November 28, members met for that month’s November 16, the Club started up again its Friday Night Happy Hour for this Winter Season to meet, greet, and initiate its Off-The-Water Seasonal Events, meeting at Dale and Betsy Schulz’s Annapolis home, enjoying Club refreshments and sharing hardy appetizers each member brought. The Club’s Annual General Membership Meeting was held at Phillip’s Restaurant on the City Dock in Annapolis on November 4th. More than seventy members met for appetizers, discussed plans for the upcoming year, and recognized key contributions made by club members during the year at a program chaired by Commodore Rosie Gollehon, who also gave a recap of all the great events that the Club already held in 2007. The Club’s 2008 Calendar of Events and a newly published “Back Creek Yacht Club History,” prepared by former commodore Larry Kelly, were handed out and Elections of 2008 Flag Officers and Board members were held. The following were elected: Commodore Maddie Yates, Vice Commodore John Oberright, Rear Commodore Terry Ritter, Fleet Captain Bill Falk, Secretary Jean Shirk, and Treasurer Mary Bowie. Cheryl Goldberg, Vern Penner, and JJ Sullivan are new members of the Board of Governors joining Rich Sanger, Bill Kranzer and Larry Kelly. The leadership changeover will take place at the Club’s annual Commodore Ball on January 26 to be held at Loew’s Hotel.
