BACK CREEK YACHT CLUB
The Club again celebrated the end of the Annapolis Sailboat Show on October 8th with snacks, drinks and a ring-side balcony view from the Marriott Hotel, overlooking the exodus of sailing craft assembled for the Show. At 6:26 p.m., the Pin Was Pulled opening up the full length of Ego Alley allowing all the in-water boats to exit by, several taking gracious 360 degree turns on the way out while others demonstrated boat handling skills in high speed reverse.
Two weeks before, on September 29th, it was the end of Summertime and the pickin was easy for the BCYC Crab Feast. It was an absolutely fantastic time at past Commodore Larry Kelly’s waterside home overlooking Tracy’s Landing and Herrington Harbor North Marina as more than 50 members and guests enjoyed bushels and bushels of Chesapeake Bay steamed crabs on this delightful Indian summer day. The sailing was fast coming South to Herring Bay in blustery winds for this annual rendezvous. Upon arrival, member’s delicious homemade appetizers along with beverages welcomed everyone while they awaited the delivery of the Bay’s beautiful blue swimmers, spiced, steamed and served with all the traditional accompaniments.
While enjoying crabs and conversation, all were provided a front row vista of the 158’ City Clipper as she quietly and smoothly glided by on her evening cruise to the Bay. The party also provided an opportunity to bid farewell and bon voyage to immediate past Commodore Angus Ballard and his wife, Cynthia, who are relocating to Canada. To top off the day, the moon appeared as a glorious orange harvest sphere providing a perfect backdrop for the evening. On Sunday morning, members enjoyed a delicious country breakfast at waters edge before they departed for their home ports under bright blue sunny skies.
