Catch the Spirit! January – Commodore Ed Evans began his year by recognizing Pat Bernhart for her “contributions that were beyond all expectations.” January – The Governor Calvert House in Annapolis was the site of the annual Commodore’s Ball, which honored outgoing Commodore Harriet Lytle and new Commodore Ed Evans, who announced the year’s theme, “Catch the Spirit.” January – The Newsletter was discontinued in favor of email “Blasts.” February – Members enjoyed a Valentines Day party at the Eastport Yacht Club. March – The Saint Patrick’s Day party was extra-festive with decorations donated by Bill and Karen Kranzer. April – The Teppers hosted the first on-water rendezvous of the season at their home on Whitehall Creek. May – Ron and Rosie Gollehon hosted a well-attended New Members’ Party at the Landings at River Oaks. The club welcomed seven new members. May – BCYC began participation in the Back Creek Conservation Park May – Memorial Day at Herrington Harbour South drew 20 boats for a weekend of lively activities, including tennis, yoga, fine food and drink, and a demonstration of the men’s superiority over the women in a game of Trivial Pursuit. Larry and Jeanne Kelly chaired this event. Gordon Bowie debuted the new Club Song. June – Members enjoyed Lobsters on Crab Creek at the annual event hosted by Wally and Molly Stone. July – 24 boats formed a circle raft in Eagle Cove for the Parade of Nations event kickoff of the “Round the World” Club Cruise. Angus Ballard captured it in a memorable aerial photo. The club went on to Baltimore for a visit to Little Italy and an old-fashioned American 4th of July with fireworks in the inner harbor. Other stops included Greece (Toga Party on the hook), Monte Carlo (Casino Night) and Germany. The Ballards raised the bar with an outstanding cruise event. August – The Pontanos again hosted an August land-sea rendezvous at their home on Dun Cove September – The Evans planned Labor Day at Solomons Island’s Zahniser’s Marina, including a cookout. About 50 members and guests attended. September – A Crab Feast in Rock Hall was organized by John and Maddie Yates. 50 members consumed a lot of crabs! October – Events this month included a rendezvous at Cacaway Island on the Chester River and an Oyster Roast at Epping Forest. Rosie Gollehon planned the Oyster Roast. November – The General Membership meeting was at Phillips Restaurant in Annapolis December – Parade of Lights and Christmas Party was held at the Eastport Democratic Club |
